One evening on the sands of Chitravati...
November 1949

Sri Sathya Sai with devotees on the banks of River Chitravati

Baba took all the devotees including Sri N. Kasturi (Baba's official biographer
and translator of His Divine Discourses and writings) to the Chitravati river
bed in the evening. He mentioned that the current pictures of Shirdi Sai Baba
that were in circulation were spurious. He brought out an authentic picture of
Shirdi Sai Baba from the sands of the blessed Chitravati. When the conversation
proceeded further about Baba being the Avatar of Dattatreya, He brought out a
beautiful idol of Dattatreya. He then took out from the sands a thick block of
sugar candy and heaped a handful of sand on a plate which inexplicably was
transformed into Vibhuti! He distributed the candy and Vibhuti to everyone.
