We present the articles for Week 41 of the 'Sathya Sai with Students' Blog:

1. We conclude the series of Discourses excerpts on Bhakti (Devotion) this
week. Swami gives us the examples of some of the most exemplary devotees of all
times. Part 3 of this series is on Yashoda, Gopikas and Radha - The Epitome of
Devotion from the Bhagavatam.

4. Competition is an inevitable part of the free enterprise system, which
started in the west and has today become the dominant form of business across
the globe. However, Swami highlights the malpractices that corporations
undertake in the name of competition and the consequent harm it does to the
individuals and the institutions.

5. The month of June is a landmark month full of important travels in Avataric
History. We continue this journey with our Lord and present the landmark visit
of Swami with His students to Kodaikanal in June 1986. It was during this visit
that He inaugurated the Sai Sruthi Mandir and also started the famous 'Kodai
sessions'. We reminisce some of those moments.

by students in the Mandir - titled "Namo Sathya Sai - Anand Dayi" - Salutations

On October 23, 1963, I developed a small ulcer on the underside of
my tongue, at the tip, on the right half. It spread rapidly backwards causing
severe pain, shooting terribly into the right ear and the right eye. The ulcer
spread quickly to the gums round my teeth, both in the upper and the lower jaws
on the right side. The inside of the cheek was also ulcerated. There were
blisters on the right cheek, the outer side. Within 4 days, I was shouting on
account of the unbearable pain.
My condition became so serious that I had to be admitted in the
Bala Ram Hospital on the 27th, as an emergent case. The doctors diagnosed it as
a case of Herpes Zoster, involving the second and third division of the
trigeminal nerve. Medicines were administered orally and through intramuscular
injections.
All the while, I was praying to Bhagawan, Who had blessed me when
He had come to Lucknow. He is My Lord, My Saviour.
On October 29th, I became so desperate with the excruciating agony
that I prayed to Baba with great anguish at about 9 pm either to relieve my
pain or end the agony forever.
            At about 12 midnight, when I was in a half-dazed condition, I
suddenly felt that Baba came to my bedside and drew a sharp knife across my
tongue. No body had come in, we had bolted all doors before retiring. But,
still, I saw Him clearly and the knife was drawn. I felt a sudden relief from
the pain. It had gone completely!
The doctors were surprised that the pain had vanished and the ulcer
was well on the way to cure. Baba had responded to my prayer; He had operated
over my tongue! And…not a drop of blood!
He gave me relief and a fresh lease of life, to keep on praying to
Him. Pray to Him ever, dear friends, for His grace!

Man’s Misbehaviour & Natural Disasters
Wednesday, June 26th, 2013
With India reeling under the disastrous effect of the Uttarakhand Tragedy, of
natural disaster, it is prudent to listen to what Bhagawan had spoken about
man, his responsibilities towards nature and the cause of natural
disasters…Extracted from the Divine Discourse delivered on 13 February 1997.
In the vast cosmos, man is like a speck. Essentially, there is no conflict
between man and creation. Just as a child is entitled to enjoy the milk from
its mother and the bee is entitled to enjoy the honey from flowers, there can
be no objection to man enjoying the resources of Nature.

But as a result of uncontrolled desires and reckless exploitation of natural
resources, Nature is exhibiting frightening disorders. Natural calamities like
earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, droughts and floods are the result of
disturbances in the balance of Nature caused by reckless exploitation of
natural resources. Mankind today appears like a foolish man who is wielding the
axe at the branch of a tree on which he is sitting.
Men have to develop a sense of Spiritual Oneness. Out of that sense of Oneness,
Love will grow. Love alone can bind the whole of humanity into one unit.

What do you see in this hall today? Here are people gathered from Japan,
Indonesia, Malaysia and other countries. What is it that has brought them
together in this small village? It is only love and the sense of oneness with
others. The bliss of life is embedded in this love. Pure bliss is derived from
this love. When this love is shared with others you have the bliss of
collective joy. When your life dances on the waves of this love it attains the
fulfilment of humanness.
Man today does not recognise this sense of oneness. Man does not mean the body
alone. Man has the mind, the intellect and the Atma. It is the combination of
all these that constitutes true humanness. When the balance among these four
constituents is upset, man is plunged in troubles. When man maintains the
balance among these four, the nation will prosper.

Man is considering Nature as entirely a creation of providence for his
enjoyment. This is a mistake.
Nature exists for enjoyment by man according to certain limits. Scientists
today are exploring the powers of Nature with a view to enjoying them without
limit. They want to bring all those powers under human control for their
unrestricted enjoyment. This is responsible for so many of the natural
disasters that we witness today.
