Be simple in the way you live. Dress simple, let it be clean and neat. Eat simple, let it be sathwic. Pray simple, let it be full of devotion. Work simple, let it be full of service. Speak simple, let it be sweet and soft. Spend time simple, let it be devoid of showiness. Love all, simple, let it be pure and selfless Call Me, simple, Let it be from deeper than your heart. The simpler you are, The lesser you have to worry about. The fewer the desires you have to kill, The lesser the mind strays. You unburden yourselves of all your luggage. Possess less of worldly things, Things that especially attach you to the body. Learn to give all, And take nothing less than My grace.
From: Sai Darshan by Seema Dewan There are precious gems of wisdom within your hearts, which require excavations, in order to be beneficial to you. Intelligence is the instrument you have to use in order to gain them. At the start, you will encounter a boulder barring your way - that is Body-Consciousness, the Ego. Desires are the loose rocks that also have to be dug out and put aside. Then you come to a bed of sand - good thoughts, good words, good deeds, when this stratum is reached, you are nearing success. If you keep with good company every day, you hearts will maintain their purity unimpaired; else, it will be difficult to win Grace or partake of it, for the vessel will be tarnished and untidy. It is like the pots and pans in your own kitchen; those used are often are bright and clean, but those stored away and used only occasionally have to be rubbed vigorously to make them bright.
