A Brief about the Project: “Sri Sathya Sai Matru Mandir” is a temple having a seat of learning meant to provide motherly love and care to impecunious girls. It is a home-like informal pre-school which will develop the children’s physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual aspects and tenderly prepare them for formal schooling. It is an educational and all-round developmental initiative for the benefit and welfare of underprivileged children from economically deprived families, with an aim to provide them with complete educational and vocational support until they develop into self-sustaining and productive citizens. The project is designed and created for girls lacking one or both parents and coming from no–income or low-income families in underprivileged and tribal areas. The design of the project is such that the Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Niketan and Sri Sai Seva Charitable Trust and Sairam Foundation of the United States of America adopt the children from the age of 5-6 years for their complete educational (books, schooling, etc.) and other (food, clothing, and hostel stay) needs. For the first two years (i.e. up to Std.2), the children would study in a separate wing of the Trust’s existing school, ‘Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Niketan’, with an aim to create a strong foundation and to prepare them to enter the mainstream school from Std. 3 onwards. Thus, from Std. 3, they will be able to study along with all other students of Sri Sathya Sai Vidya Niketan. Further, Sri Sai Seva Charitable Trust and Sairam Foundation have decided to take up complete responsibility till they graduate or finish vocational training and become self-reliant. Consequent upon the launch of the project by Sri K Chakravarthi, the beginning was done by adopting 10 girls for the academic year 2015 – 2016.
