*Jennifer Fernandes, Silver Creek High School* *Jennifer Fernandes*, *Silver Creek High School*, was awarded Teacher of the Month for her "Collaborative Quality Chemistry" project which took her students on trips to the Tech Museum and Lawerence Livermore Lab and purchased chemistry-related software to enhance learning and teaching of chemistry.
The project made chemistry more interesting to students by introducing them to the practical application of the field. The field trips allowed students to see real-world scientists at work. The software allowed students to interact with and manipulate molecular modeling where students were able to see what the molecules look like, and how it behaves in a spatial manner. Additionally, the software provided a virtual experimental chemistry lab, giving students access to substances and experiments that are either too expensive or dangerous for the classroom, and allowing them to do experiments with hypothetical values to see what kind of results they get and whether they confirm to standard theories.
