Sex rackets thriving in massage parlours
----------------------------------------
Massage parlours have of late attained notoriety for being
centres of sex rackets. Such massage parlours seem to go
unchecked mainly due to the blessings from some influential
persons and the cops.

The fact that even the cops are hand in gloves with the
perpetrators of the sex crime came to light when the deputy
superintendent of police, Mr Sammy Tavares, and police
inspector, Mr Manjunath Dessai, along with a team of
Mapusa police raided a beauty parlour cum massage parlour
in Morod. Here it was revealed that this racket was going on
for a long time with senior police officials being 'aware' of it
and still turning the other way. It was only at the behest of
Mr Tavares and Mr Dessai and the assistance given by
other police officials that the racket could be cracked.

Sex rackets thriving under the guise of massage parlours is
not a new thing. Such massage parlours are thriving in coastal
villages.Last year locals from Anjuna had protested against the
rising number of massage parlours and it was alleged that under
the guise of these massage parlours, the flesh trade was
flourishing.

'Yahaan sab kuch milta hai' was what the 'agents' of such
massage parlours were going on telling the tourists who
were landing in Anjuna. Realising the gravity of the situation,
the locals proposed a resolution at last year's gram sabha
that no more massage parlours should be permitted in
Anjuna, as this was ruining the culture of Anjuna.

These massage parlours are now seen 'legally' mushrooming
in cities but carrying out 'illegal' trade inside their premises.
In the first place it is very easy to obtain permission and licence
for a massage parlour.Once a licence and permission is obtained
for setting up a beauty parlour and massage parlour, the stage is
set for the beginning of a sex racket.

It may be recalled that just last week, the Mapusa police had
nabbed two 'agents' who were taking a sex worker to a customer.
Close on the heels of this, the Mapusa police managed to lay their
hands on the beauty parlour and crack down on the sex trade that
was going on there. The police not only held all those found there
but even seized large amounts of cash and condoms.

Surprisingly, it is learnt that the accused had even advertised for
new girls to work in her parlour. Police claim that while each
massage ranges from Rs 1000 upwards, the girls working there
are brought from different places and paid Rs 5000 a month,
besides they also receive 'tips' based on the customer's
satisfaction.

While the accused has provided a fictitious name and address
to the police it has been learnt by the police in the course of
interrogation that the family members of the accused were not
aware of the situation. The licence for this beauty and massage
parlour had also expired in March and it is surprising how this
parlour continued to operate.
