Imagine what would happen in Goa if there was the slightest evidence whatsoever
established to link Swine flu to the pigs. The health authorities would have a
huge problem on hand if there was any need for culling operations.

Its not only that there is a subtantial swine population in the villages but
many enterprising Goans have moved into piggery farms with financial subsidies
from the Department of Animal husbandary and are doing pretty good by way of
annual returns since there is a huge demand for farm pork in the hotel industry.

However, the Goa Govt's efforts in bringing abt an awareness among the local
masses that eating pork and its products has got nothing to do with the flu
leaves much to be desired.

The Pork sellers and pork saugsage traders are crying hoarse that there is a
decline in their business and there are no takers for the Goan delicacy. They
are demanding to be compensated.

The Govt should not fall prey to their gimmicks, but rather come out with a
forceful awareness campaign to clear the doubts.

In the meantime, today being a Sunday....I have Pork Vindhalo on the menu!

Daniel.

Thanks for your kind letter Lloyd. With respect to the pigs - Absolutely agree,
Ashley. But just look at what happened in Egypt. Mubarak and his henchmen
destroyed the livelihood of hundreds of Coptic christians by culling their
pigs. 250,000 pigs were killed, leaving many of these pig-farmer christians,
who pre-date Islam and account for 8% of Egypt's population, destitute. Another
angle to the religious thing, I'm
