Couldnt believe that fungi (mushroom or whatever - sorry never been interested
in seeing them or eating them) got you making a posting to the SaligaoNet!

Heard about the heavy rains -....not really required now eh?

The mushroom is amazing, and so beautiful. Never seen anything like it before
- but then again, I don't know a whole lot about fungi. But this one is truly
spectacular.

Dear mushroom lovers,

Just as we were being mesmerised by the bewitching pageantry of
nature on display at <http://www.fungiphoto.com/index.html>, our
garden - an important classroom of our homeskooling children -
conjured up this fascinating, latticed, specimen of fungi magic
(see attachments).

We discovered it in July this year, the last time we had a deluge
like the present one, but did not got down to sending it. Better
late than never!

We do not know at what stage of blooming we discovered it, but by
evening it had faded.

And yes, thanks to our *thaumaturgist*, we did explore the
'fungiphoto' and other mushroom sites to find out a little more
about this monsoon gift to us. The closest specimen we found to
ours, was the 'Phallus Merulinus' at
<http://www.kingdomoffungi.com/db/ab-
index.php?keyword=1312-26&sort=id>.

There are a few others of this aptly named Phallus family, but we
do not know what the one we found is called.

Can anyone enlighten us on the common name, the botanical name,
its medicinal and other uses if any and on its toxicity.

Thanks and warm regards from a wind blown and rainy Saligao
spawning some colourful mushroom magic...and plenty of unwanted
damage to our crop! Do remember our farming families.

M&M.
