Centenary of International Womens Day to be 
observed by Goa Womens Forum on Monday 8th March

The Goa Womens Forum, a collective of women 
volunteers of Civic and Consumer Forums in Goa, 
is organising a program on 8th March to commemorate 
100 years of the International Women’s Day which was 
first promoted in 1910.
 
In this regard, the Goa Womens Forum will be 
launching its year long activity to commemorate this 
centenary by undertaking an Awareness Campaign on 
Women’s Rights alongwith the village based Consumer 
Forums and other Organisations.
 
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, the 
program to be held at the Carmel College at Nuvem 
from 3.30 to 6pm will highlight some important issues 
affecting Women in Goa such as increased Crimes against 
Women, the need for Women’s Empowerment, effectiveness 
of Women’s Reservation in Governance and the need for 
Consumer Literacy amongst Women.
 
The speakers for the Program will be Ms. Amita N Salatry, 
member of the Goa State Consumer Protection Council and 
the Consumer Conciliation Committee who will speak on 
Consumer Rights in relation to women, Ms. Nelly Rodrigues,
President of the Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan 
(GPMSA) will speak on the importance and effectiveness 
of reservation for women in Governance, Ms S. Sundarinanda,  
Inspector General of Police (IGP) Goa will speak on what 
needs to be done to stop Crimes against Women and 
Sr. M. Aradhana – Principal of Carmel College for Women 
will speak on the need for Women’s Empowerment. 
 
Women volunteers from the Civic & Consumer Forums 
will also present a report of their experiences in tackling 
various issues.
