Fr Nascimento dropped in to my home yesterday (Friday) afternoon. Unfortunately, I had to be at my inhospitable worst -- and didn't let him get past the gate -- because I was in a hurry to submit applications for some book proposals we are working on, and the deadline was minutes away! But knowing the number of topics we have to discuss, it was quite some time before we finished chatting... by the gate!

Fr Nascimento's book, Follow Me III (on the parish priests and churches of Salcete and Mormugao sub-districts) is doing well. It is half-way sold out within barely three weeks of being published. Friends like Valmiki Faleiro have been helping a great deal with making sure the book reaches its deserved audience.

Meanwhile, Fr Nascimento is also planning for his next book -- on Saligao. If you have an article to submit, please do. Your work will be duly acknowledged. We are planning for a September 2010 release.

Material which has already been worked on, and shared online via the Saligao Serenade network, thanks to the help of guys like editor Val Souza (his father was one of the two co-authors of the 1973 centenary book on Saligao) will form part of the book. Helpful Yvonne Vaz-Ezdani has already done some of the work for topics like "A Walk Through Sonarbhat". But Yvonne is currently in Australia, and I hope that the text reaches us on time! Keeping fingers crossed there.

Fr. N suggested to me that I do an article on Norman Dantas, the journalist who played an influential role in the journalism of Goa of the 1980s! I sure will; Norman was an influential factor in my younger days, till he died at a rather early age (in his mid-forties) in 1998!

Please share your Saligao-related articles; I've clicked quite a few photos, but there's space for many more, specially if they are historic pics going back to another era. Long-time and skilled photographers like Joseph St Anne can help us here! I've requested Dayanita Singh for a good pic for the cover! Maybe we need to tap Dean and his office for an updated map of the village. Best! FN
