A few stray thoughts on my visit to Saligao today being the feast day.

The 'Ferns Bar' in Arrarim run by Lawrie is a meeting place for many young men
and the not so young men too. They need not go there for a drink, but for
several years this has been the happening place or a hub where one can discuss
just abt anything from local and international politics, to sports,
business, weather, usual village gossip and inflation too.

So everytime I visit Saligao I make it a point to drop in at FB not for a
drink, but just to say a warm hello to my good old friend 'Lawrie'. There are
times though I miss out this brief meeting owing to time constraints.

So today when I visited Saligao for the feast I had to keep my customary
appointment with Lawrie. I can't write much abt the feast for I could not make
it in time for the feast mass nor the procession since the Zuari bridge was
shut down from 5.30 a.m. to 9.30 a.m for some routine maintenance works.

I met Fr. Nascimento at the church and he gave me a feast souvenir. He looked
hail and hearty. I understand the attendance at the feast mass was good and
Bishop Allwyn Barretto (Sindhudurgh) was the main celebrant.

Coming back to FB there I met Gladstone and Jagdish as well as Warren Vaz. Met
Warren after a very long time. And then a little while later walks in my good
old friend Louis from 'down under' of'course minus his fanciful blue turban.
(or was it black color?) But there is no way he can try out the turban again,
now he sports a clean shaven scalp. And I understand he is having a gala time
with the seasonal Ur'rack. Well, I think we can't envy his indulgence... after
all 20 years is a very long time to be away from Goa and abstain from chilled
Ur'rack mixed with Limca! And mind you Ur'rack is not available throughout the
year....its only a seasonal drink , so make the best of it.

Lawrie has now changed the position of his counter...it is now directly facing
the 'Cantare'. I wonder if this has got something to do with 'Vaasthu'? When I
questioned him about it...he did not say anything. His premises also has a new
look.

I suggested to him to have a laptop on his desk alongside the bottles and
become net-savvy. I think he has to move with the times and keep pace with
technology. He could join the Saligao-net then and keep us all posted of the
happenings in and around Arrarim and Saligao. His customers are normaly limited
and all dedicated clients, as such he has ample time to spare and participate
in the topics that are usually discussed during business hours. May be
Gladstone could talk it over and convince him.

And a final stray thought, I wonder why somebody is not reviving the good old
'Foxes Nite'???
