Dear SaligaonkarsIt is election time and lot of development will take in Saligao. This is the village that is privedged to have underground cabling for electricity for the people of Arrarim only. We people of arrarim are a dignified lots that we get electricity underneath our beddings. The road from Voltar to Betim was tarred for the first time in 1959 by the portuguese. It could withstand tsunami, earthquakes, rain etc. That road was still strong enough till today though a white wash was done by someone some years back. What a shame. The road from voltar till calangute were mere two concrete lines and mud on either side. till today these lines lie burried under the road and while the road built thereafter gets worn out the lines are as good as new. I remember the deshem ghor where one person used to live with his family. Every day he would dig the drains and remove the mud fallen in it. If one had to take a walk from voltar to tintto we would see this man faithfully digging and clearing the what we call in konkani valli , These drains were justnpport the church. Oil and money would be paid for the feast when no one celebrated the feast. The big vaus in Saligao used to be periodically cleaned by removing the mud . All this was done by the communidade of saligao who would get money from the xhidav of the fields. Who destroyed the communidades ? not our Indian government by bringing tennancy law and grabing all our lands ? The rest you know. Salgaonkars should fight like anna hazare . Ask your people you have voted what they are doing with tThese days one will see even the hibernated politicians popping their heads. As long as we do not learn to judge for ourselves what is actually right and what is actually wrong, and do not learn to judge who is the right person in this world and if one goes by beauty, riches, status we get roads with holes or may not have roads only do not be surprised if roads are converted into godowns for everything is possisble in today's world. albert
