Dear Muriel and Mario,

I have been following the controversy over the mobile tower and I applaud you
and the people of Saligao who have been actively standing your ground to
preserve the environment, health and well being of the village on the whole.
We in first world countries are only now trying to undo much of the damage we
have done to our natural resources and health in our rush to advance technology
in our daily lives.
We are now painfully aware that we can have both progress and a healthy
environment if we do not allow ignorance, greed or impatience to dictate our
actions. I strongly believe that our actions must be predicated on the long
lasting effects they will have on our grandchildren. It gives me great pride
to see that the villagers of Saligao understand that we are not only proud
villagers in Goa, but also stewards of the land we occupy, and it is our duty
to preserve it for future generations....

Your vigilance is an example we can all learn from.

Indigenous Rights Quotes

Treat the earth well: it was not given to you by your parents,
it was loaned to you by your children.
We do not inherit the Earth from our Ancestors,
we borrow it from our Children.

We are more than the sum of our knowledge,
we are the products of our imagination. "

Community at Risk (Sulochana Pednekar, IndiaUnheard)

Mr Cyril Demello is known for such gimmicks. He tried the same stunts in
Aldona, but was denied permission by the Gram Sabha to set up a tower in
a residential area. He has still gone ahead and installed a Tower
without the requisite permissions albeit in a less populated area.

From: Goanet News

About the Video: On 31st January 2012, the residents of the close knit
community of Abreu Vaddo in Saligao village in North Goa awoke to the
sounds of rumbling machinery and the earth shifting under their feet.
The people were told that the ground was making way for a new mobile
phone tower. The community was shocked at this uninformed decision to
erect an imposing metal structure which seemed to jeopardize the old
and well-planned neighbourhood which prides itself on its serenity and
sense of security.
