But then, the same holds good for our Cell Phones too. . . . . . . . . . ditto. In May 2011, WHO very categorically classified cell phones also, as class "2b" possible carcinogen. One sincerely hopes that few years down the lane, experts will be able to conclude that there are no life-threatening effects from mobile radiation, not because I am an ‘open supporter’ of the present mobile tower, but because if found to be true, then we face a much larger threat from our mobile phones, which are always so close to our body, if not attached to our earlobes. Already, many case studies claim that the risk factor due to radiation levels from our cell phones is higher, than that due to radiation from a cell tower (at ground level). It is also worth noting that radiation from our cell phones is at its highest, when the mobile signal is weak. For this reason, many experts suggest that we should avoid using our mobiles in elevators, buildings, rural areas and places where the mobile signal is weak. And it is a known fact, that the mobile signal strength or mobile coverage in many areas of Saligao, is simply pathetic. A “CATCH-22” situation indeed !!! From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Dear Saligaonetekara, We gave this forum the opportunity of *seeing* the World Health Organisation's (WHO) International Agency for Research in Cancer's (IARC) press release on their latest stand on EMF / RF radiation in May 2011, at Lyon, France (see attachments). Now, let *hearing and seeing* the video of the same press conference, dispel any doubt that the radiation from the Delaney Tower in Abreu Vaddo, is a "possible carcinogen". This means "there could be some risk" of cancer. It is this risk that Saligao does not want to take and is asking the tower team to shift the tower to a safe place. Please take the time and trouble to watch this short, 4 and 1/2 minute video of the WHO/IARC press conference here: Listen very, very carefully from 2 minutes, 36 seconds onwards. Here is the transcript, verbatim... Question (from Jeff Waters, Australian Broadcasting): "...should we conclude that mobile telephone towers are also included in the possible risk? Answer (from Dr. Jonathan Samet): "the designation for group 2B is Radio Frequency, Electro Magnetic Fields is unspecified as to source, so the group 2B classification would have broad applicability to sources with this type of emission." Dr. Jonathan Samet was Chairman of that WHO/ IARC RF working group of "31 international scientists and doctors from 14 countries", a group, the IARC Director Christopher Wild called "the world's leading experts". Dr. Samet is a professor at University of Southern California in Los Angeles and was appointed to the National Cancer Advisory Board by President Obama last year. We were not the ones to first refer to the WHO. Ashley, Cyril and Gerard did. In fact, Gerard in his letter to Dr. Salkar, claims that the WHO has "given a clean chit to mobile towers." So, since the tower team relies so much on WHO pronouncements, we have quoted it before and quote it here again, this time with audio-visual evidence! The tower team, led by Gerard Delaney, the M.Sc. double gold medalist in Physics from IIT Mumbai, their open supporters like Maruice Britto (Budza) and Dilip D'Cruz, their experts like the surgical oncologist Dr. Shekhar Salkar and others who post pro-tower material to this listserv like Desmond D'Costa, have studiously avoided a response to this latest, May 2011 conclusion of the World Health Organisation's International Agency for Research in Cancer. We know that their stock reply will be: "the radiation from our tower is extremely low". This makes the risk of cancer, also extremely low... This human community in Saligao, does not want to take even that extremely low risk, for themselves and for future generations. And here, the WHO/IARC refer only to cancer which probably takes time to manifest itself. But there are many more health hazards than just cancer, which are connected to EMFs and RF radiation. But that is another story! Warm regards and solidarity.
