Hotels and commercial establishments in neighbouring Calangute get uninterrupted power supply while the villages around have to bear the brunt. The same thing can be expected of the water pipeline passing through some fields of Saligao.

MAPUSA: Villagers of Saligao are quite agitated over the fact that
they have to bear with the constant voltage fluctuations and powers
shut downs since the last one week.

Things came to a boil on Sunday as the village had to celebrate the
village Mae De Deus feast of their church without any power.
It is reliably learnt that since the last one week there are regular
power shutdowns and there is no uninterrupted power supply even for 3
continuous hours. This, along with low voltage, voltage fluctuations
have given rise to anxiety among the villagers.
A local, Mr Joseph D’Souza, who is involved in dairy farming and also
high tech agricultural activity, has complained that his business is
affected due to power shut downs and low voltage and he is forced to
bear a great loss.
“I need a lot of water for my dairy farming and agricultural activity.
For this, I need a proper three phase supply but most of the times all
the three phases are not working and there is either also a shut down
or low voltage and I am subjected to a great loss,” informed Mr
D’Souza, adding there was village feast on Sunday and there was no
power supply from around 8 a.m. till around 11 a.m. and it resumed
after a lot of phone calls to the concerned officials.
“Even the staff of the department is quite rude and do not tend to
address the issue in a humane manner. As it is we are subjected to
inconvenience due to regular power failures and if there is no
solution and no proper answers coming from the officials what should
we do” he sought to know.
He felt that the senior officials must intervene and ensure that
proper supply is restored to Saligao.
Junior engineer attached to the Saligao office, Mr Panna D’Souza,
informed that the shut down on Sunday was due to a technical fault at
the Tivim sub-station, which had to be urgently rectified, however, he
said that he tried to provide power to people of Saligao through the
Nagoa sub-station.
With regards to the low voltage, Mr D’Souza informed that he was
helpless as the areas fed by the Porvorim and Saligao sub-station had
to bear with this problem for a long time.
“We are supposed to get 33 kV from Tivim, but we are getting only 29
kV. On account of this deficiency, there is a voltage problem. We have
already informed the Power Minister about this issue” he said.
He also pointed out that regular power failures were taking place with
regards to the Church transformer as the LT lines running overhead
were being subjected to hostile conditions like falling of coconut
leaves on them, which was giving rise to short circuits or voltage
problems.
