TOURISM MINISTER VISITS BAGA AND CALANGUTE BEACH

CALLS FOR BETTER INFRASTRUCTURAL FACILITIES ON BEACHES

 Minister for Tourism Shri Dilip Parulekar has emphasized the need for
providing  better  infrastructural facilities on all beaches in the
state He said, this was necessitated not only to develop major tourism
spots like beaches but  also to attract more domestic and
international  tourists, increase revenue and promote tourism in Goa
in a big way.

          The Minister who visited the famous Baga and Calangute
beaches in  North Goa today alongwith Shri Michael Lobo, MLA, Shri
Nikhil Desai, MD, GTDC  and other senior officials of the Directorate
of Tourism and Goa Tourism Development Corporation further stressed
the need to keep all the beaches clean and provide adequate facilities
such as life guards, changing rooms, toilets, parking, High mast
lights among other facilities required.

The Minister during the course of his visit also directed the
concerned tourism authorities to initiate steps for proper planning
and promote tourism sector.  He further instructed them to explore the
possibility of setting up of sewerage treatment plant at Calangute
beach under centrally sponsored scheme and a viewing  tower with 50
mts. height at Baga for safety and security of the general public and
tourists.

The Tourism Minister also reviewed the garbage  situation on entire
Candolim-Calangute, beach  stretch and interacted with the Sarpanch of
Calangute and Candolim as regards cleanliness  on beaches.  He urged
the local MLA and Village panchayats to join hands in undertaking
cleanliness drive and keep the beaches clean.  He held discussions
with the concerned officials on the proposed  Baga Beach Circuit
Development Project funded by the Union Government  and said that the
Government has also plans to change the Shack Policy.  In addition to
this, 350 tourist guides are also to be appointed this year, he added.

Shri Parulekar witnessed the life saving system demonstrations
presented  by Drishti which provides beach safety management for Goa
Tourism Department for the entire coastal beach stretch in Goa.

Smt. Anna Maria D’Souza Sarpanch Calangute, Shri Joseph Sequeira,
Panchayat member and Shri Gurudas Shirodkar, Board of Director GTDC
also  accompanied  the Tourism Minister during his visit to the
beaches.
