Wouldn't it be more prudent on these clean up drives to assign specifics to
individual cleaners and segregate whilst cleaning? Then recycle rather than
fill our hillside???? Now the nullahs which were heaving with filth are
riverlets pushing the garbage into the fields. It's all wet and even more
disgusting. The area by the chapel in our ward is a mass of mud and plastic all
heaped up by the jcb that cleared the path between the road and the fields to
calangute. It is horrific. All that's done other than to allow the water to
flow which i appreciate is vital, is to bring more garbage to the fields.
Surely what we need is recycling bins & lots of them at various points in the
village and a serious repetitive educative campaign in all the village schools,
church temple etc (where there should be recycling bins as well as outside
panch, market, church, shops etc) empower the children to instruct their
parents on how to use the recycling bins. If it is segregated lots can be
reused, people just need to be shown how & why. Again & again till they get it?

Best Helene
