Dear Saligaonettekara, Saligao has lost many young people to parents who have allowed, nay encouraged with pride, their under-16-year-olds, to speed along our village roads without a riding or driving licence. Others observe the letter of the law and get a licence, but flout its spirit. Then with or without the aid of more popular 'spirits' that haunt our ever increasing number of bars, they go on to kill not only themselves, but yank hapless others to a premature and eternal RIP...or at best, to a free ride in 108.
Our main road - popularly but erroneously called the infamous CHOG-M road - continues to be an efficiently designed death-trap for many an innocent Saligaokar. Against this backdrop, please remember all those villagers who have been needlessly sacrificed at the altar of speed, recklessness and government callousness...as we observe State Road Safety Week.
