Dear Rico, Congratulations on the conferment of the 2012 VINCENT XAVIER VERODIANO AWARD on yourself for your initiative re ‘Goa,1556’ As you are aware the printing Press arrived in Goa by a quirk of history. This was originally meant for Ethiopia. However, it landed in Goa and became a useful ARTEFACT for the Jesuits to print their Catholic literature. Alas although the Jesuits were the products of University of Paris they failed to use it to disseminate information other than religious while helping Europe to imbibe the rich repository of 5000 years of civilisation, particularly with reference to Mathematics, Medicine, Science & Cosmology In the meantime we in Goa and the East were deprived of all the literature promoted and publicised in Europe in the century of the erstwhile rulers of Goa. It is significant that it was left to you with your quest for knowledge and the need to disseminate useful knowledge widely that you took the important steps for which you have been rightly acknowledged by being presented with this distinguished award. It is also a tribute to your spirit of enterprise and magnanimity and your desire to assist in disseminating knowledge to the reading public that is an acknowledgement of your noble instincts. . We are overjoyed with the recognition which you richly deserve.
