Thanks Much for throwing more light in a dark area of Arch. Eugenes Ancestry.

D"SOUZA (Born 16.11.1917 Back With the Lord 18.03.2003)

Arch Bishop Eugene lived next to Late Flinto de souza's house. The house is
broken and only coconut trees are seen. His grand father and my mom's
grandfather were brothers and so my mom's house and his house is the same.
Originally their house and flint's house had a common wall. Later my mom's
father built a separate house and broke down his original house . This was in
1920. His mother, Ben's Father and Seby de Cruz's mom were brother and sisters.
The people of Bhopal were in love with him and built a house for him in Bhopal.
He lived like an ordinary person and one would not see in him as a bishop or
greater than that.He moved on cycle and was known as cycle bishop. He was
present when people had difficulties. It was difficult to recognise him as an
arch. bishop. Many times people from outside Bhopal when they visited him were
fooled by him.

Fondly remembering Archibishop Eugene D'Souza on
his 10th Death Anniversay Today.

He was a Childhood Playmate of my Late Dad and his
Siblings too. He was a Close and Great
family friend
of ours. Much as he
was a towering Personality, he was also an extremely humble and a soft spoken
person.
Whenever down in Goa or Saligao he almost always
chose to spend time with his Maternal Aunt and his

First cousin
Poruficacao
Coutinho given the choice of the Bishops Palace or other better Parochial
places.

Arch. Eugene was Born, Schooled and Graduated in
Nagpur. HIs father worked and the family lived there.
He was ordained a Priest on 29.9.1944 in
Nagpur and belonged to the Order of MSFS.(Missionaries of St.
Francis
de Sales).
He was consecrated Bishop on 3.10.1951 in Nagpur
and was finally consecrated Archibishop of Nagpur
on 5.09.1953.

He had the Distinction of being the youngest Bishop
in the Catholic Church, the world over.
Much can be written about his Character and all his
Missionary works.
When in Saligao there always used to be a Beeline of Visitors
to meet him I remember.. .

We all know of his great Leadership and stong views
in the famous 2nd Vatican Council.
Arch. Bishop Eugene was instumental in
Pioneering the Introduction of Vernacular in the Liturgy.
In Bhopal he got Priests to forsake the use of the
Cassock to use Civilian clothing to identify better with the
Civilian Population

On 20th May 1994 he resigned as the Archibishop of
Bhopal, at a the age of 75.

Archibishops Eugenes Father hailed from
Cotula Vaddo. Location of his House is not Known, even to my
only surviving Paternal Uncle aged 93.
His Mother hailed from Muddavadi. She was the
Sister, of the Father of Ben/Dr.Maizie and Marshal.
But almost all his Visits and stays in Goa he and his family
lived with his Mums Sister Cristaline and
First Cousin Poruficacao, in Our Ancestral
Olden-Day-Joint House, with a common Balcao,Common
Salle,
rest all living areas inside separate with 2
separate House Numbers, all under one common Roof.

They were a large family and he had a Monsignor
Priest Brother, Fr. Jack and another Brother George,
a Brigadier in
the Indian Army. These were known to me
besides others who were Nuns etc not known to me.

(Some info take from Fr. Nascimento's "Land of the
Sal Tree")
