Dear Eknath,

Congrats on the super fast action!

Let us call for a meeting along the lines of your 'Clean Saligao'
initiative. We can then ask villagers to volunteer for the data collection.

Along with our children Tarika and Suhail, we will work with Florie Vaz our
Panchayat Member and others like Nicholas Sequeira to look after our
section of Sonarbhatt. We already know that we have 9 dogs from the
beginning of our lane till Lourdes Convent.

It should not be a problem if volunteers 'get' their respective elected
Panchas to work with them (should be the other way around, really!).

The dog population around the Garbage

(see
bald patch which is a sea of plastics, in the centre of the pic), m-m-m-m!
Now that is a tough one! As we know, one ex-Chief Ministerial solution
originating in the village, a quarter of a century ago, was to shoot the
lot. But that would be construed as 'caninecide' or 'doggicide' and in
this day and age, is not an acceptable solution.

But seriously, with those dogs partying daily with foxes who are the
aboriginals of Saligao's hills and who are known rabies-carriers, we do
have a potential epidemic sitting on our heads, literally. We have no clue
of how to get rabies shots into a population of wild dogs.

Eknath, we will have to consult the animal experts or the Goa Chapter of
the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to advise us. But if
the wild dogs can be caught for an anti-rabies shot, then one possibility
is to spay and return them to the same location.

Let us keep thinking of solutions...

Warm regards and solidarity.

M&M.
