The Britto's OBA held its seventh Annual General Body Meeting [AGM] and fourth biennial elections to the Managing Committee for 2013-15 and to the Internal Auditors on 27 July, 2013, at the St. Britto High School [Std. II-A] next to the school hall, where there was a family get-together for members. BOB Jose Manuel "Amor" Fernandes [brother of Roy and Savio, owner of premises housing Fab India, Mapusa; SSC of 1963] attended and joined the association while his batch mate, BOB Ronaldo John De Sa could not make it. BOB Sanjay Kadam also attended. All three came in contact with the Britto's OBA thanks to the repeated publication of the notice in the Navhind Times BUZZ and Times of India's "Look Out for" between 24 and 27 July, 2013, which also informed members who are not net savvy. BOB Jose L. D'Souza, President, called the meeting to order after observing one minute silence in memory of Head Mistress Jacinta Fernandes, wife of member BOB Kevin Fernandes and sister-in-law of Founder Vice-President BOB Fr. Cecil Fernandes SJ and Headmaster/Principal BOB Fr. Cedric Fernandes SJ. She died of a tragic road accident on 01 July, 2013 at the outskirts of Mapusa on Siolim road. The minutes of the AGM held on 11 August, 2012, after the felicitation of Patron Member BOB Adv. Francisco C.J.A. de Pinto e Souza alias Babush on his appointment as Minister for Urban Development [later elevated to Deputy CM], were read and confirmed unanimously and without changes. Proposed by BOB Raul D'Lima, [both an alumnus and former teacher at St. Britto High School],and seconded by BOB Joseph Duarte [son of teacher Raida Duarte of SMC, Mapusa]. The unaudited accouts for 2012-13 presented by Treasurer BOB Max Cordeiro were approved after discussion with two riders 1. that the accounts of the Xmas Dance 2012 be verified for receipts, including Rs.39,000/- of the Xmas hamper, and all expenditures; and 2. that all the accounts for the years after the last accounts 2006-07 audited by the Chartered Accountants S.J. Thaly & Co, Panaji, be audited by the respective Treasurers [BOB Kenneth D'Souza 2007-2009; BOB Jose L. D'Souza 2009-2011 and BOB Max Cordeiro 2011-13] within six months and to report compliance to the General Body by the next AGM. Associate Member Agnelo Remedious recommended that the Britto's OBA files its I.T returns as it has a PAN card and taxable interest from the FDRs. The accounts need to be audited for this purpose. The accounts have been presented annually; it is only a matter of confirmation by audit. BOB Ashley Delaney proposed that the unaudited accounts of 2012-13 be approved, subject to the audit thereafter, and BOB Elvidio D'Souza seconded it. the accounts were approved unanimously. BOB Jose L. D'Souza, the outgoing President was the Returning Officer for the elelction. Ten nominations had been received of which one was invalid. The nine Members elected unopposed to MC 2013-15 are: 1. Charles de Souza [SSC of 1977] 2. Miguel Braganza [SSC of 1976] 3. Cesar Cabral [SSC of 1981] 4. Elvidio D'Souza [SSC of 1983] 5. Ryan Carvalho [SSC of 1989] 6. Martin Carrasco [SSC of 1991] 7 . Max Cordeiro [SSC of 1994] 8 Chalmer John de Souza [SSC of 1999] 9..Johan Braganca [SSC of 2005] They are a good mix of 4 former MC members and 5 new members who have joined after the St. Britto High School playground project was completed. There is also a good representation of SSC batches, though there is none from the 1960s now as in the last term. We have younger students from the 1990s and 2000-plus batches represented in the new MC. Internal Auditors BOB Aloysius D'Souza [Founder Treasurer, SSC of 1977] and BOB Michael D'Silva [former PTA member, SSC of 1972], have been appointed by the AGM as per the provisions of Section 21 (b) of the Byelaws of the Britto's OBA [page 195 of BRITTO'S RETRO]. It will help to keep the accounts up-to-date. PLAN OF ACTION: 1. JOINT MEETING OF THE PAST AND NEW MANAGING COMMITTEE: A smooth transfer of charge and election of new President, Secretary and Treasurer to operate the accounts is the first item after elections. 2. CAREER GUIDANCE for SSC students at the school's "Zero Period" between 12 and 14 August, 2013. The Zero Period is between 8.15 and 9.00 hours. 3. QUIZ QUEST -5 in September, 2013, possibly on the last Saturday, 28 September. Ganesh Chaturthi holidays end 16 September and first term exams have to take place around 20 October as 30 October is the last day of the term. 4.FOOTBALL MATCH: BOB Savio Fernandes [ from Angodd-Mapusa] and BOB Charles de Souza [MC member once again], will lead us in organizing a friendly football match with the school team and possibly the school staff team during the year 2013-14. 5. XMAS DANCE 2013: We have a Xmas Dance T.E.A.M. leader in Fidelis Filemeno Carrasco. We have learnt from our experiences with the previous six dances and will use this learning to improve efficiency. The Xmas Dance 2010 under T.E.A.M. leadership of BOB Agenelo de Oliviera has been the best in efficiency, accounting, transparency and surplus income over expenditure. There has been improvement in Gate Collection at Xmas Dance 2012 thanks to outsourcing of gate/ticket collection to Marcos Coelho through BOB Victor Albuquerque. We need to ensure that all the money received and earned in the name of Britto's OBA comes into its bank account at HDFC Bank and it is disbursed only from this account. Thanks to each one of the new MC members for filing your nominations, agreeing to discharge their responsibilities and making a good start by remaining present for the AGM on 27 July, 2013.
