Yesterday evening (Oct 31, 2013) reminded me of what the Saligao Institute used to be like in the 1970s, when all the many Africanders had returned to Goa, lending new vibrancy to the village with their many ideas. (Only to mostly leave to migrate when they grew up in the 1980s or 1990s).
One of the things I got into then was quizzing, and we had one yesterday at the SI. There was a pretty good crowd, with some participants coming from Porvorim and Miramar and elsewhere. Brig Ian and team worked out things neatly. Special thanks should go to Tina Cordeiro, who took on the leg-work and computer work, Leroy who kept the quiz going, Ashley the scorekeeper who ensured the computer and project worked flawlessly too, Yvonne and Pamela who helped with the corrections and supervision of the written round, the other club executive committee members, and of course all the participants and the chief guest for the evening, Sr Leandra of Lourdes Convent. It might be very good for all the youngsters (and the Club activities too)( if the table-tennis could be got going. Any volunteers to make that happen? Like old times too, we could have an occasional debate. A thinking village could be your best bet for a better village.
