Press Release Shifting of Garbage Treatment Plant In Saligao From the date the government decided to install a Garbage Treatment Plant (GTP), on top of our Salmona  hill, in Saligao, just above the Salmona Spring and vaddo, the villagers of Saligao have been in dialogue with the government to shift the GTP to a safer, alternate site, just 700 mts away.  The location of this alternate site is safer for the environment and all human settlements in the 3 villages of Candolim, Calangute and Saligao. Saligao is NOT opposed to the GTP.  In fact we need and do want the plant.  All we are saying is that it should be shifted to a safer location.  All our pleas have so far fallen on deaf ears and the government is going ahead with the acquisition of the present dangerous site above Salmona, disobeying a High Court order. We want to reveal all this to the Press including our future plan of action in this new people's movement.  Besides the usual press note in hard copy, we will be giving each journalist a DVD containing the following: - a specially commissioned, video documentary focusing on this problem, - some other relevant video clips for the electronic media, - photographs of the dump during an official site visit with officials of the Goa State Pollution Control Board (GSPCB), in Oct. 2013, - photographs of our proposed alternate site, during an official site visit with officials of the GSPCB, TCP and Survey Dept., in Nov. 2013, - relevant legal and other documents.
