Dears,

It was a nice event on growing monsoon vegetables and fruit plants at
Campal today.I had a back2back workshop on growing fruit plants at Margao
with Karan Manral ... North and South Goa in one day!!

35 persons attended the free workshop at Campal, 53 persons paid Rs.400/-
per head for the Margao workshop. Free events have less value attached to
them.

>From tomorrow till Saturday, the parents of students at O.L of Rosary High
School, Dona Paula, will view the labeled ornamental plants on display at
the school, while the students prepare land to grow vegetables ...and more
ornamental plants ... organically.

Many years ago we had an exhibition of medicinal plants in Lourdes Convent
High School, Saligao, then a All-Girls school. Saligao was on my mind as I
taught the students of Hamara School, Panaji, the "Square Lashing" to make
a strong trellis. It is something I learnt through my days in Boy Scouts
... with many camps at Salmona fountain, Saligao. Ambrose Vaz, who lives in
Salmona, is a member of the Executive Committee of the Botanical Society of
Goa ... the association of plant lovers that is the leading light in
participatory development of organic agriculture in Goa. [

Finally it is a matter of ATTITUDE. If SFX school, Siolim, can organize a
FESTIVAL OF PLANTS & FLOWERS every year ... for 22 years in a row ... is
the Lourdes Convent HS so lacking in organizational skills that it cannot
conduct such an event even once? I do not believe that is true. It is that
they choose not to do.
