---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: PIB-Goa <[email protected]> Date: 1 July 2014 15:04 Subject: KVK ORGANISES AWARENESS CUM TRAINING PROGRAMME IN SRI GOVERNMENT OF INDIA PRESS INFORMATION BUREAU PANAJI, GOA July 1, 2014 *KVK ORGANISES AWARENESS CUM TRAINING PROGRAMME IN SRI* Krishi Vigyan Kendra [KVK] of ICAR Research Complex for Goa organised an awareness cum Training Programme in *SRI system* of rice cultivation as part of it’s mandated Frontline Demonstration Programme during Kharif 2014 at the Saligao Panchayat Hall on Wednesday,18th June. The function was inaugurated by The Chief Guest Shri Dilip Parulekar, MLA and Hon’ble Minister for Tourism in presence of Mr B.B. Sethi, General Manager and Officer Incharge (NABARD), Mrs. Geeta Rane, Dy.Sarpanch Village Panchayat Saligao, Programme Coordinatior (KVK)Incharge Mr Vishram Gaonkar by lighting the traditional lamp. In his address the Minister highlighted the role of modern farming practices in rice cultivation and said the Government is fully supporting and promoting the SRI system in the State as it has proved to be more economical than the farmers traditional practice. He congratulated the Krishi Vigyan Kendra for introducing new rice varieties in the villages and training the farmers in modern methods and technology. He appealed to the farmers to take maximum advantage of the services rendered by Krishi Vigyan Kendra of ICAR. Mr B.B Sethi (NABARD) in his Presidential address highlighted the importance of increasing farm productivity with the help of latest technology developed by ICAR/KVK so that the economic development of farm family is achieved. He highlighted the role of NABARD as the Nodal agency in agricultural refinance and it’s commitment to various farmers bodies like Farmers Clubs , NGOs Self help groups etc. He complimented KVK for organising the field based programme under its Frontline demonstrations. Mrs Sandra Fernandes, the Founder of Green Growth Institute , a NGO working for Children and farm women spoke about the role of Green Growth Institute and the activities undertaken with an aim to attract young children/generation towards farming and empowering the farm women for their economic upliftment Earlier, Shri Vishram Gaonkar, Programme Coordinator i/c welcomed the dignitaries and the farmers selected under the FLD programme and briefly narrated the role of KVK services for the benefit of farming community. The KVK distributed Foundation seed of red kernel rice varieties “Revati” and “Makkom” through the hands of the dignitaries to the selected FLD farmers of 5 villages namely Parra, Sangolda, Guirim, Saligao and Verla. During the technical session a presentation of soil sampling and testing and efficient use of fertilizers in paddy and a presentation on SRI technology was made by Shri Shashi Vishwkarma, Lab Technician and Shri HR Prabhudesai, Subject Matter Specialist (Agronomy) respectively. Shri Prabhudesai informed that the two varieties would cover an area of about 12 ha in the selected 6 villages of Bardez taluka.He also compered the programme and also proposed vote of thanks.
