Clarice (Brian Vaz's wife, at the Sonarbhat Bund) has a very limited number
of copies of this book. Priced at Rs 300, this is very good value for
money.

Feasts, Feni and Firecrackers by Mel D'Souza

Mel D'Souza

[image: Mel D'Souza]Mel D'Souza was born in Dar es Salaam, when Tanganyika
(now Tanzania) was a U.N Trust Territory governed by the British. At the
age of ten, Mel's mother brought him to Goa where he went to school in
Saligao for five years until he matriculated in 1952. He then returned to
Africa and worked for an oil company in Dar es Salaam before emigrating to
Canada with his wife and two daughters in 1971.

The stories in this section are reminiscences of Mel's schooldays in
Saligao when Goa was Portuguese territory, and they reflect a unique way of
life that had endured for 450 years until 1961 when Goa became part of the
Indian Republic.
