The parcel of land encroached on was never leased nor sold nor was there any MOU between the Institute and the encroacher. The land stands in the name of the Institute and has been given to them with an intention to promote community activity.
The institute has no mandate nor powers to relinquish land to any one. People often envy clubs like the club Harmonia, BSP club, Bombay gymkhana and so many other clubs for the infrastructure and activity that they have. The Saligao institute has just started building momentum with activity etc. If the little land that they have is dished out because some quarters wish to extent sympathy.., then either the offer should be open to all or the encroacher be vacated immediately.
