Dear all: Many old times would remember Ormello D'Souza Tipri, the amiable and always smiling gent who ran Casa Tipri in Cotula, where we all bought our newspapers and milk from in the 1970s. Mr Tipri was also the local reporter for the then sole English language daily, The Navhind Times, which made him a doubly popular village figure.
Unfortunately, in an accident that took place just as he was emerging from the Grande Morod junction, where the vaddo road meets the main Mapusa-Saligao road, some drive crashed into him and this popular village figure passed away. That must have been in the 1980s, if I got my facts right. Now, his son Nicolaus dSouza is a young man who runs the Quarto de CASA TIPRI homestays at their renovated family place in Grande Morod. It's not one of those places for mindless mass tourism of the more-is-better-never-mind-the-impacts kind. Just wanted to share with you some of the reviews his place has been getting... and from talking to him (though I've not visited) I know that Nicolaus runs the place with a lot of pride and determination. Check below: PS: This is NOT an advertisement. Just believe we need to encourage well-run local businesses... specially the small ones! https://www.google.co.in/search?sclient=psy-ab&client=ubuntu&hs=VU&channel=fs&q=casa+tipri+saligao&oq=casa+tipri+saligao QUARTO de CASA TIPRI 1, Grand Morrod, Saligao, Goa James Kirkbond Beautiful location; quiet, rural, and immaculate. The grounds are welcoming and peaceful. The rooms are spotless, aesthetically pleasing, and the bathroom/shower was impeccably finished. Good pressure shower head and instant hot water. The staff were very nice, and friendly without being imposing at all. Nicholas, the owner is a kind and intelligent man with a great deal of local knowledge and the staff are extremely courteous. Breakfast was lovely. Great location if you prefer the quiet, unobtrusive life style over the party atmosphere nearer to the beach. It isn't that far however, and mopeds can be rented from the guest house without hastle. Highly, highly recommended! Mahesh Kenkre 2 months ago- Quarto is one of those few places in Goa where you can experience the Goan Countryside at VALUE prices. The room was spacious and most importantly clean... Good Shower head and comfortable bed with soft towel. A distinct point of this home stay from other places is a non intrusive and relaxing interface with staff. We always endure to have good service with a minimal pinch on our pockets… Quarto de Casa Tipri is one place that meets this balance. Debipriya Bhowmick 2 months ago- My husband Manoj and I drove to goa this monsoon (August 2015). My first choice without any research was Casa tipri that I had bookmarked last December when my friends and I were planning New Years there; however couldn't go. This August was the perfect time to stay with Nicolous in his Casa. I will not drive on points that every one else mentioned below because all of them are true and can't be denied- clean sheets, clean bathroom, absolutely stunning location! One point I would mention is if u want to wake up to bed side tea then wAit for few month when he will open his field side plot to public cafe. As of now he has provided with all necessary items for a self help tea coffee. The lack of a fully functional kitchen has been taken care by him collaborating with a local restaurant called colors that will bring you tasty food if u wish to stay and cherish the gorgeous view! But the host requires a special call out- he is a business man with a heart! Thank you nic for making our monsoon so awesome. We love ur house and we can't wait to come and stay when the coffee shop is set! Thanks for those tips and we thank you for the azulejos address that made a long pending dream come true above all thank you for the upgrade it was a pleasant surprise! Melvyn Cardoz 3 weeks ago- Excellent Value for money...Clean and spacious room in a serene environment Ankita Morajkar 2 months ago- We stayed at Quarto de CASA TIPRI for 2 days and it was completely relaxed stay. The room had a balcony which over looked green fields. The staff and owner took special concern to make sure that we were comfortable. Overall it was a relaxed weekend and we will be back again robin chhabra 5 months ago- The hotels are plastically cold and the homestays at times, are intrudingly warm. And somewhere between the two, striking a perfect balance is Quarto Casa Di Tipri, and it’s host Nicholas. Situated a bit off the track (and it helps), over looking vast green space is this old portugese home, nestling nice clean rooms which perfectly fit the ‘value for money’ bill. There’s a stillness around this place which you need after running through waters and streets and sellers in Goa. But what makes the stay special is the host who resorts to personal hand written notes that are slipped through your door in the morning, suggesting what you can do today. Woah! There’s a jacuzzi and a cafe coming up soon, as Nicholas said and once they come up, this is will THE place to retire in the evening. I had dropped my mobile phone in Anjuna and he was the first one to suggest the use of findmyiphone app and sat through with me till I found the co-ordinates. Well yeah, I am a sort of techno-retard but that was a massive help. I found it back in 3 hours and the credit goes to him and Goa police. And here’s the greatest surprise, when we couldn’t arrange the cab to my next destination, the host himself drops me to where I was going. Sweet isn’t it? Santosh Morajkar 8 months ago- An experience of the clean Goan countryside is best felt at Quarto de Casa Tipri ….. Definitely a worthwhile stay !! Franziska Koehler a year ago- Grüß Gott! Quarto de Casa Tipri is like a small paradise tucked in the green countryside and is also close to the Beach Belt. My Husband and I decided to stay here as we had some business regarding property matters in Goa. After a hectic day, it was relaxing at the Guest Haus. The property overlooked paddy fields and has clean and green surroundings. Most importantly the bathroom was clean and we were surprised to find this level of cleanliness for the price we paid. The owner did add a homely touch to our stay, by an occasional visit to enquire if we needed anything !! Indeed it offered excellent value for our stay. Es hat uns gefallen, hier zu bleiben !!
