Saligao News; Norman Dantas Award to Mr. Gurunath Kelekar The Noman Dantas memorial award for this year was conferred on social activist and freedom fighter Mr. Gurunath Kelekar on 27th March, during the well attended function held at Hotel Nova Goa, Panjim. Mr. Christopher Fonseca of All India Trade Union Congress, who was in the forefront of ‘Novem Goem’ movement in the eighties handed the prize to Mr. G.Kelekar. Norman Dantas prize is given to an outstanding individual who has been at the forefront of the struggle for social justice. Dantas who died on 21st March, 1998, dominated the scene in Goa for several years through his singular contribution to the transformation of ‘ Goa Today’ and ‘Herald’ He is the son of Mr. Damasceno and late Mrs. Bridget Dantas from Grande Morodd, Saligao Appointments: Arcbishop Filipe Neri Ferrao,has appointed new members of Fabrica da Igreja de Saligao and the Confrarias of St. Anne’s and Rosary Chapel for the years 2004 to 2007.. Their names are as follows: I-Fabrica da Igreja de Saligao:1) President-- Rev Fr. Francisco Ataide, Vicar “ pro tempore”; 2)Treasurer-- Mr. Joaquim D’ Mello from Mudd’davaddi ;3) Attorney-- Mr. Francisco Estevao( Stephen) D’Costa from Cotula; 4) Member 1---Mrs. Alba D’Souza from Sonarbhatt and 5) Member 2--- Mr. Tony Dun, from Arrarim. II- Confraria da Capela de S. Ana, Saligao: 1) President---Mrs. Eulalia Remedios from Tabravaddo; 2) Treasurer---Mrs. Palmira Fonseca from Don-vaddo; 3)Attorney---Mr. Pascoal D’Sa from Aquem Mollebhatt; 4) Member 1—Mrs. Maria D’Silva from—Mudd’davaddi ; Member 2-Ms. Sebastiana Lobo from Don-vaddo. III- Confraria da Capela de N.S. do Rosario, Grande Morodd, Saligao. 1) President—Mr. Thomas Ribeiro; 2) Treasurer—Mr. Pascoal D’ Souza; 3) Attorney—Mr. Lawrence Travasso; 4) Member 1—Mrs. Philomena D’Souza 5) Member 2-- Mrs. Alina Fernandes. 2) Confraria de Mae de Deus da Igreja de Saligao and Confraria da Capela de Santo Caetano, Arrarim, Saligao are yet to be approved.(Mother’s Call—May-June 2004, p. 12.).
Fr. Avinash Rebelo, Rector of Saligao Seminary has informed that this Academic Year 2004-2005 have registered 100 students at Saligao Seminary, out of which 34 are new entrants plus 40 students at Seminary Nivas, Duler, Mapusa . Total of students 140. Seminary Nivas is the branch of Saligao Seminary. The students here attend Higher Secondary School, at St. Xavier’s College, Mapusa and after completing Std. XII return to do an Orientation Course, of one year at Saligao Seminary. Fr.
