---Mater Dei Institution, Saligao is celebrating Founder’s Day . Mr. Anacleto F.X.Lobo as far back as 1909 founded this school and in 1984 its platinum jubilee was commemorated and in about five years it will complete its century. Initially the school was affiliated to the Bombay University later on to the Poona and Goa Boards. In 1992 it introduced I.C.S.E curriculum of the Delhi Board.

With the death of it’s dynamic Principal Mr. Anacleto Lobo the school was managed by his wife Mrs. Ines Nazare Lobo for some time. Later,  Miss.Cleta Lobo, daughter of Mr. Anacleto Lobo, stepped in and took charge of the Institution as its Principal, assisted by her sister Miss Edna Lobo. Mater  Dei, Saligao  is the second oldest school in Goa and an Institution ‘sans pareil’. It is also our Alma Mater. Congratulation to the Principal , staff and students!

 

---There are a dozen families from Saligao staying in Vasco-da-Gama. Mr. Daniel D’Souza from Nigvaddo, Saligao/Vasco, working for MPT is the editor of the Mormugao Port Trust bi-monthly ‘ Goenchim Lharam’. He also contributes articles for Times of India (on Goan Themes), The Goan Review, Goan Observer,( on Tiatr and triatr personalities) Gulab, Lharam( St. Andrew’s Parish Bulletin, Vasco-da-Gama), Saligaonet etc., both in English and Konkani.

 

----- Dilip Thakore, Editor of “ Educational World”, a Human Development magazine which features outstanding educational institutions in the country and abroad, has described Mater Dei, Institution, Saligao, Goa, as “ arguably India’s most sophisticated village day school”.

---Mrs. Aurora Maria Couto from Aldona, is an ardent admirer of the artist from Saligao the late Mr. Francis Newton Souza. In her book “ Goa A Daughter’s Story”, she cites him in various page of her book. The late Mr. Francis Newton Souza , besides being an international painter, was also an author of  books such as “Words and Lines” , London, Villiers, 1959 and “ New Poems”, Bombay, Pundole Art Gallery, 1985.                          Fr.
