--Government adopts long-term measures to boost agricultural production.

 The Saligao MLA, Dr. Wilfred de Souza, opposing the demands, urged the government to stop illegal constructions from coming up on agricultural lands. Dr. de Souza asked the government to give reasonable support prices for floriculturists, higher subsidies to them to set up green houses and for nets and to curb the coconut disease of mites in Goa.

Regarding animal husbandry, Dr. de Souza said stray cattle was runing crops and causing accidents. He urged the Government to fix responsibility of impounding stray cattle on the local panchayats and the police. He also urged the government to plant fruit trees in vacant spaces of forest.( Courtesy—The Navhind Times)

 

--The Goa Governor-desinate, Mr. S.C.Jamir will  take office at Raj Bhavan on July 17. He is accompanied by his wife Mrs.Alemla Jamir( Courtesy-The Navhind Times). He is sure to visit Saligao Church in the near future.

 

--On Founder’s Day , the Mater Dei Institution had an All Faiths’ Prayer celebration plus a Social for school staff and students with school band in attendance.. The highlight of the day was the launching of the School Magazine called “ Mater Dei Buzz”- a quarterly with contributions in form of articles and poems by staff and students.

--The people of the three wards Mudda’da-vaddi, Tabravaddo-Mollebhatt and Don-vaddo are busy preparing for the Novena and feast of St. Anne. which is to commence on 23rd of July.

--To-day is the universal feast of St. Bonaventure and in the VII Century the St. Bonaventure’s Friary was established in Old Goa. In this friary, Philosophy, Theology, subjects of the Juniorate and also Konkani were taught. The image of St. Bonaventure which adorned the altar of  the Monastery of the same name was brought to Saligao and . is now seen on the altar of St. Francis Xavier in Saligao Church.
