ST ANNE’S CHAPEL—VII

THE 150TH YEAR---1992 TO 1993.

HAND IN HAND TOWARDS THE FUTURE---II( CONTINUATION).

The 17th of May took us to the climax of the concluding ceremonies assisted by several visiting priests, the procession made an impressive entrance unfurling yet another banner that was to adorn the main altar with an exhortation to the community: " HATANT HAT GHALUN FUDDAR TANKUM-IA.".Fr. Vasco D’Souza addressed the congregation. Like threads of gold the themes had finally been gathered, braided and knotted into a concluding bow.

With Jose Franco ably performing as the animator throughout, with hymn books generously provided on the final day and Orlando Vaz conducting the choir the congregation gave full vent to their voices in deserved praise as they brought the festivities to a close. Then the band and the Fireworks took over and the cake was served. On the main altar was placed an exquisite replica of the Chapel in polystyrene.

Outside there was celebration. The Chapel was a picture of delight festooned in streams of coloured lights, resplendent as a bride, yet I venture to guess a trifle shy. At its inception it stood in humble surroundings in a coconut grove with the red ribbon of a cart track in front of it. Today it stands on the prestigious CHOGM road with tarmac roads in all directions apprehensive of the shape of things to come with the dwindling number of fields and the ever dwindling peasant population that was once its particular pride and joy.( end).

N.B. At the altar we had among the concelebrants the eldest priest from the wards Fr. Francis Sequeira( Donvaddo) and the youngest in Saligao Fr. John,D’ Silva( Mudd’davaddi). The main celebrant was the Parish Priest of Saligao Fr. Nazario Godinho. After the communion the people pledged around the Pascal candle held high by the Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the 150th celebration of the Chapel of St. Anne to continue the spiritual journey begun on this day 17th may, 1992 till May 1993 and beyond always keeping in mind the theme "HAND IN HAND TOWARDS THE FUTURE".
