ST. ANNE’S CHAPEL---XVIII.

LITURGICAL PROGRAMME OF THE 150TH CELEBRETIONS OF ST. ANNE CHAPEL 1992-93.

N.B. Mr. Jose Franco was chosen as in-charge of the liturgical function during the celebration. He had to work closely with The Parish priest of Saligao and His Assistant and Fr. Gui Moraes S.J., the chaplain ‘ pro tempore’ of St. Anne’s Chapel and Fr. Nascimento Mascarenhas, the Chairman of the Organizing Committee with his team of the three wards. Here is his report.

The liturgical services in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of St. Anne’s Chapel were as follows;

From 14th to 16th may, 1992, Triduum service with rosary, litany, mass and sermon was conducted by members of Murdavaddy, Donvaddo and Tabravaddo-Mollebhatt.

On 15th May our Hindu community from the above mentioned wards performed bhajans in thanksgiving to St. Anne. They offered a brass lamp( diuli) in remembrance of the event.

On 17th May was the opening ceremony. At the concelebrated mass, Fr. Nazario Godinho, Parish Priest, was the main celebrant, assisted by Fr. Nascimento Mascarenhas , Fr. John D’Silva and Fr. Francisco Sequeira S.FX . The chapel was tastefully illuminated with music being played and fireworks displayed.

The preparations for the feast of St. Anne started with the blessing of the banner on 16th July. The daily novena service with rosary, litany, mass , sermon and salves was held from 17th July to 24th July. The preachers during the novenas were Fr. Tony Salema, Fr. Santana Carvalho and Fr.. Herculano D’ Costa.

On 25th July at the vespers service, Fr. Antonio Felipe Paes, The Episcopal Vicar of North Goa, was the main celebrant assisted by Fr. Nazario Godinho and Fr.Guy Moraes.

On 26th July, the feast day of St. Anne, the Archbishop of Goa, His Grace Raul Gonsalves was the main celebrant assisted by many priests. In his sermon His Grace exhorted the people to follow the teachings of the Church and inculcate the virtue of humility and prayer as shown by St. Anne. The feast was celebrated by Mr.& Mrs Agnelo Remedios and family( Tabravaddo-Mollebhatt). Each day of the novenas was dedicated to various intentions.

Two children were baptized during one of the novenas.

On 2nd November, the Pilgrim Statue of Our Lady of Fatima visited the chapel for a brief period. There was a large congregation to welcome Her in which our Hindu community also took part.

During Christmas, the youth of the wards went carol singing. A live crib on a mobile van also went around the village singing carols.

On 26th January 1993, Mr. Peter Severine Masacarenhas and Luisa Maria Mascarenhas joined in the Holy Sacrament of Matrimony. Fr. Nascimento Mascarenhas, uncle of the bridegroom, was the main celebrant assisted by Fr. Manuel Pinto do Rosario and Fr. Edwin de Souza

To commemorate the extension of the chapel on 2nd February, 1910, Fr. Nascimento Mascarenhas offered mass on 2nd February, 1993. In his sermon he gave a detailed account of the extension and prayed for those who donated the land and helped to carry out the construction work.

The liturgical programme of the year will end with the concluding ceremony which was solely aimed at increasing the life of Faith, Hope and Love. May St. Anne who guided us for the last 150 years continue to do so always.
