We have to somehow sustain the pressure on both fronts.

Are there any water quality studies planned on the fountain water and/or wells
in
the Salmona area surrounding the dump? I was under the impression that the
plateau
site was a temporary measure until another properly constructed waste disposal
facility was aquired somewhere in North Goa. However it has been going on for
more
than a decade. Was there any truth to the dumping of trash in Calangute by a
Saligaokar or was it just smoke?

One of the ways to mend relations between the villages (Calangute & Saligao) is
to
develop a joint solution for garbage recycling and disposal that could benefit
our
constituents too. I'm sure there are other solutions to the problem than just
shipping it off to some-one else's backyard. Metal, glass and plastic recycling
with composting of wet waste with the sorting done at source. However, it
requires
the political will to implement and police.

Judging from the pictures on the saligaofountain site, it appears that the
construction is proceeding. When it is eventually stopped, who foots the bill
for
the demolition? Can the area be returned to it's natural state?

Congratulations to Muriel & Mario for keeping up the pressure and to Louis for
breaking this story on SaligaoNet.
