Dear Friends It is frustrating to see that despite Governor�s Rule, the machinery set to stop development at Saligao Spring lumbers along. The corrupt Saligao Panchayat ward members, gaining strength from the slow process are beginning to feel even stronger and in a recent Gram Sabha meeting passed a stupid resolution stating that they will not cooperate with the Saligao Communidade (which owns over two-thirds of the land in Saligao) and the Saligao Civic & Consumer Cell (which does over two-thirds of the development work in Saligao). Even Arjun Harmalkar (the builder of the illegal construction at the Salmona Spring) for whom I had some regard, has gained bravado by speeding up this construction now reaching the third slab level and worst of all has yesterday threatened Muriel (who has been actively supporting the non-development of the Spring) with dire consequences. I believe that all of us survive on the good will of the people around us. And should any of us fail to live within the law and destroy our environment should pay the price. Arjun builds and sells apartments to Saligaokars and he has now outlived the goodwill extended to him. I therefore believe that we should not deal financially or socially with such persons. The same goes for other members of the Panchayat who are involved in sale of land and construction of houses. If we do not take a tough stand now, our village will be destroyed by these crooked goondas who are now poised for a takeover.
