I'm looking for a manufacturer of the thin transparent plastic trays that

me the phone no. / email adds. of any such mfg. units in Mumbai?

Any chance of using an alternative to the plastic tray?

These "thin transparent plastic trays that are commonly used inside
biscuit/cake packages (Britannia, Parle's Mongini's etc.)," most often are
not needed. The same products were packed without them before, with no
problem. It is become a fashion to use them as a lot packaging from abroad
comes that way. Not that they keep the product intact either. Breakages
are the same, with one exception: with the new trays, the consumer cannot
make out or 'feel' the breakages! As it is, with the cleverly designed
opaque packing, one cannot 'see' the breakages.

Only last evening we bought a packet of Britania Biscuits with all the
biscuits in one section of the tray, in pieces. Before,
without the tray, one could feel broken pieces, or hear them rattle and
choose another pack.

As you know, plastic packing and bottling is killing this small, beautiful
state of ours. It comprises the single, most non-biodegradable waste of any
garbage dump. We need to work towards banning its use in Goa, especially as
bags, as they have done around areas like our Dudh Sagar falls and in states
like Sikkim.

Our plea is to think of some alternative packing solution to your
application. With the commitment, creativity and sustained
resourcefulness you and Melissa have demonstrated over the years, we are
sure you will produce one more stroke of genius to address your packing
needs.

In Mapusa market, there are some 'leaf' products available, but these are
mainly for serving - bowls, plates etc. Do you think
something like 'leaf' would serve your purpose? In Kerala they are pretty
original when it comes to putting natural substances
to different uses.

Besides architecture, one of Dean D'Cruz's hidden talents is product design.
Anything to help with Loumel's packing needs,
Dean?

Hope you can find something alternative soon.

Solidarity.

Melissa & I have been checking out various alternatives to using plastic -
known as blister packaging - as we are equally concerned about the
environment.

We did consider -
1. The leaf / banana bark mouldings - but they often leak & soon develop
mould. They're OK for 'on the spot' serving. Besides quite a high %age of
the bulk pack needs to be scrapped due to holes in the leaf or leaves are
not
properly joined. Hygienic???

2. Aluminium foil mouldings - far too expensive.

3. Laminated card paper - manufacturers we contacted, said it couldn't be
moulded to required design.

I need presentable, food grade, cheap, disposable, compartmentalised, trays
to hold semi-liquid. The trays should not deteriorate for at least a day.
Right now PVC / PET / HIPS mouldings (all recyclable) seem to be the only
viable option. If anyone has a better alternative PLEASE CONTACT ME WITHIN
THIS WEEK.
