Hi Denis, Do you remember me? I'm sure you will if I tell you I was half of the pesky Ricky-Rico kids (the Rico half) that roamed around Sonarbhat when you guys were already into serious football, hockey and whatever.
My home is five houses away from yours! When I take my two-year-old son for a night-time walk around the place, I often tell him stories about your dad (Uncle Dionyosio, if one recalls right), whom I recall was a cricket player for/in Uganda, isn't it? One day he called me and showed me the bats and seasoned balls he had with him; but being a bookworm type it didn't quite attract my interest. I recall your mum too. All this village history needs to be recorded, so that we can pass it on to the future generations. It would be great to see youngsters getting down to writing on local, village issues. When I got a chance to visit Uganda recently I thought of your dad and all the other Goans who spent many years in that part of the globe, which incidentally also reminded me of Goa. (Because of the type of writing I do, I occasionally travel to some of the most bizarre places on the planet, societies emerging from trying times, violence, poverty ... like Africa, Bangladesh, Cambodia.) Wasn't your brother/s also into sports in a big way? It's nice to meet up after all these years. I don't quite recall where you studied in Goa, was it Guirim or Brittos? Do fill us in where you have been and stay in touch. It's certainly pleasant to recall old friends and meet up, even if only in a cyber way. Lastly, there's a surprise coming: we have a new member on this list, now based in Canada but very much from Sonarbhat. And we await her self-introduction!
