Use it, stop corruption
---------------------------
Will the citizens use it? That is the essential question to ask considering
that many consumer activists  in Goa are using the Right to Information Act
to fight corruption and bribery. This is an interesting point to debate upon
because all long the people of Goa have been screaming from the rooftops
about the levels of corruption in the state of Goa. They have also been
screaming about how money talks and the corrupt stay happy and they
have also been lamenting on how there is no salvation in sight.

Now that there is salvation available will the people of Goa use it?
Will they use the Right to Information Act to clean the system, solve the
problems and allay their fears? And most importantly will they use the Act
and the provisions of the Act to improve the system in Goa. They should
and they should not be afraid of any repercussions.

Agreed in Goa there is a lack of accountability in many departments.
In fact, trying to get information from any department or from any
minister is as easy as watching the sunrise from the West. And there are
so many instances as to where the public has sought information and has
just been brushed away.

One classic example is why is the government still so determined to go
ahead with the IT Habitat at Dona Paula. Can the Minister for Information
Technology provide us with the information as to which companies have
decided to invest in Goa.

Similarly can the information as to why the state is suffering from such
frequent power failures and why does it take an ordinary person so long
to acquire a duplicate birth / death certificate. Or for that matter why is the
River Princess still stranded on the Candolim beaches or very importantly
who gave permission people to violated the CRZ.

Yes, there are many questions that need to be answered and many queries
to be solved. But who will do it. Now the means are available, will the
people use this to achieve a satisfying end - corrupt free Goa.
