UK: Anna de Souza: Tackling discrimination and racism 8 Dec: Richmond and Twickenham Times … From April 2005 to March 2006, 456 incidents of racism were reported to Hounslow Racial Equality Council (HREC) with 152 cases taken to the courts or other authorities … Anna de Souza is Hounslow's independent race crime outreach officer. She had previously worked at the Home Office's race equality unit. "I am totally independent from the police but I have the ability to liaise with them and keep an eye on what they are doing with regards to the victims," Ms de Souza explained … Anna divides her time between the Police Community Safety Unit and Hounslow Racial Equality Council. The main aim of her post is to bridge the gap between victims and the Police and to encourage victims to report all race crime whilst providing practical and emotional support.
