NT News Service [Navhind Times, Feb 27, 2007 * Pg 17] Mapusa, Feb 26 Hosts Saligao Sporting Club lifted the glittering VM Salgaocar trophy, scoring a convincing 3-0 win over Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao, in the finals at Saligao grounds.Saligao led 1-0 at the break. It was Domnic Rodrigues who turned out to be the hero for Saligao, scoring a hat-trick. Saligao went into the lead in the 5th minute when Domnic Rodrigues came up with a dangerous move and shot the ball past the goalkeeper, which hit the right post before entering the net. On changing ends, Adarsh piled up tremendous pressure to restore parity, bu ttheir efforts were thwarted by the rival defenders. Domnic consolidated the lead when he doged past a couple of Adarsh defenders and shot the ball past the helpless keeper. Saligao made the issue safe in the closing stages as Domnic's powerful right-footer crashed itno the top corner of the net, leaving the Adarsh keeper grounded. Following prizes were awarded: Best goalkeeper: Francis Fernandes (Saligao Sporting), Best defender Shailesh Patre (Adarsh Yuvak Sangh). Best half: Mahendra Hankande (Adarsh). Best forward: Uday Naik (Saligao). First and last goal scorer: Domnic Rodrigues (Saligao).
