Kudos & Kongrats to Dr. Zelio! Just giving credit where credit is due!
There was a time one had to either travel to Bombay to do these type of
operations or suffer in silence. It then became easier when the Dr. from
Bombay (dont recall his name) made a visit to Goa once a year & later once
in 3 months & people took the opportunity of doing the operation then.
Congratulations to all Saliganvkars! After all Zelio is son of Saligao soil.
And I can vouch for his expertise since my family & I have been recipients
of the same. (no knee replacements yet, thank goodness! Inshallah, we wont
need them despite our slight hobblings at present & will hopefully hobble
along with the originals till our visas come through from above or
wherever!!!).

I had the pleasure of reading the article on the knee replacement sitting
opposite my mom, having a 'poi' for breakfast and paging thru the Herald. I
wish to take nothing away from this achievemnet
Oh Dilip! you were in Goa eh? - enjoying happy holidays in the rain? Not
forgetting the pao & poie - did you get anything extra in them? for same
price of course! Perhaps you werent as lucky as I! - ha ah ha!
but my current trip to India has not been permeated by any uplift of the
spirit (apart from the trips to Lawrie's).
Yeh right! - achievement is acknowledged....but - there is always a but....
anyway glad that your spirit was uplifted by the special spirit provided by
Lawrie. By the way, hope he is well & his business is doing well!
Independence Day was full of gung-ho 'we have made it', 'we will be a
superpower' cr*p. We are, it seems to me, prone to stretching optimism to
the point of stupidity.
Welcome, welcome, welcome! Most of us have always refrained from speaking
too bluntly or not at all, though disillusionment came to us early
enough....Dont be so pessimistic Dilip! of course India is going to be a
superpower any time hereafter.... - next diamond jubilee?
Remo was absolutely correct in his assessment of the political situation. I
hope that article is posted soon, Fred. I have little doubt that our
politicians do indeed belong in Central Jail.
Read about Remo & his refusal ...... & he certainly had the guts to call a
spade a spade (you seem to have done the same in your email Dilip)... such
people are required to make a difference, even if it is the smallest
difference, others will follow suit, hopefully.... but from past
experience.... I doubt it. One is left alone to bear the brunt & then one's
case is lost & one's efforts become an exercise in futility.
Witness the roads, the paths, the dirt, the lack of drainage, the incidence
of malaria, malnutrition, abject poverty, the millions upon millions
displaced by the floods, the shrinking himalayan ice caps. And the
corruption.
You can rumble all you want, nothing changes... so Yeh yeh & yeh! but who's
looking & who's bothered? Let's keep our fingers crossed & hope that the
present Govt. will do the needful despite their bickerings....????? we can
always hope...where there is hope, there is joy or so I've been given to
understand...let's wait for the joys, if any.
Yes, Zelio, well done. Perhaps we will one day celebrate the fact that Goa
Medical looks - and smells - clean. That, surely, will save more lives than
these high-tech adventures that send the Indian spirit into optimistic
super-orbit.
Hmm! a case of giving with one hand & taking with the other eh? But the look
& smell of Goa Medical is not Dotor's fault. the look & smell of Goa
Medical has been the same or worse even before Zelio's birth I guess - hey
hey! Some things dont change. I remember the same sights & smells of Goa
medical from 1967, when the same was situated in Panjim, so what??? Govts.
& Health Ministers have arrived & departed.....
Have a good day & a better week! all the best to one and all.
