or .... if they can get out, they can open the VPN-connection from the remote sites back to the central site
(very hard to advice if you don't know all details of the infrastructure) -----Original Message----- From: Sutherland, Bryon [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: 17 January 2003 16:29 To: '[EMAIL PROTECTED]' Subject: RE: [SA-list] Remote check problem How about running SA on a machine behind each firewall? They could each upload their reports to a centralized server since they can get out. -----Original Message----- From: Lambrecht Pieter [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 10:20 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [SA-list] Remote check problem I know this option. I'm administrator of several small networks. all protected by firewalls. therefore it is not always possible to check the servers behind that firewall. My idea is a little program that runs on remote servers, and that sends signals to the SA server. This way, I don't have to open firewalls of customers. most of the time access from within the network to the internet is open, so that would solve my problem. I only have to make a hole in my firewall (restricted to the IP's of the customer's firewall) The SA server holds the configs of the remote programs. After installing the client on the remote server, the only config is setting the parameters to connect to the SA server. After the remote program has a connection to the SA server, it gets the needed config, checks what it needs to check, and signals the SA server at a specified interval. Anyone who has such a thing, or is developing it and needs beta testers ? P.
