AOL is particularly problematic in their treatment of outsiders using their IM network for messaging.  There are possibilities (I haven't looked into them for a while) that could be examined.  Perhaps something could be worked out on a trial basis, like SAMessenger was, and then Dirk can examine the need for including such a feature.

Are there any plans to implement messaging with AOL?  There are several open source projects that allow interfacing with AOL.  GAIM is one.  I do not do any programming, but I would think if there are applications with freely available source code that can interface with AOL’s servers then it should be relatively easy to put into another program.
