Dirk: Sorry about that log file, I could not find where it is. All I see is the install.log file in the directory.
I got it working today by turning off my firewall, then running salive using TCP/FTP as you suggested. Then when I restarted my firewall it seemed to allow the checking to work. Not sure why, its Norton Personal Firewall. Now I would like it to messenger me when it goes down but I tried that and did not have much luck.
