Well the probably just became reality :-) For ICQ-MSN-SNPP (and SMPP when available as alert) you can now have a fall-back to DUN. Whenever the sending of the message fails via the normal connection (LAN) Servers Alive can retry the sending using a different network connection (DUN - dial-up networking). This will only work for the alerts NOT when doing a TEST from the SETUP.
As always: feedback is more then welcome.... (why not for SMTP? For SMTP we already have an option to fall back from primary to alternate (or the other way around) in case of failure and there you can also have the alternate (or primary) via DUN) dirk. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of Ryan White Sent: Fri Jul 11 9:41 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [SA-list] SMS Alpha paging problem That's unfortunate. How do you page if your main pipe to the internet goes down? On the other hand, a POTS line almost NEVER breaks, even during power outages. That's why I use TAP. Once TAP is unavailable, say goodbye to reliable paging during network outages. -ryan. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Dirk Bulinckx Sent: Friday, July 11, 2003 11:46 AM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [SA-list] SMS Alpha paging problem We're currently working on the SMPP protocol because a provider (which I'm not gonna name and no it's not Verizon) had to admin that it's TAP gateway was very unstable. So I wouldn't be surprised if other providers have similar problems with their TAP gateway. Also I was told by somebody within that "paging" world that more and more provider are shifting towards network protocols for paging opposed to modem protocols (like TAP and UCP)...you might wonder why :-) dirk.
