We saw this when our server was just upgraded from 8.0.5 to 8.1.7.4  Seems Oracle plays by new rules with the listener.  Used to be that for shared services Oracle/TNS Listener would return the IP address of the physical server.  Now in 8.1.7.4 they return the hostname of the physical server which would fail to resolve and the clients were all running in dedicated mode. That caused our processes to max.

Subject: [SA-list] Oracle Test

Ver. 4.0.1376

Has anyone seen a problem using the Oracle Test?  I tried it against an Oracle 8.1.7 server and after a day or two Oracle generates an error of Maximum Processes Exceeded preventing any additional connections to the database.  I stopped the servers alive for a week or two and things seemed alright on the Oracle Database, so I figured let me try using it again over the weekend and error returned on the Oracle database.

Thanks

Dirk
