I have
mine set up to also send SMS messages in addition to smtp emails to my cell
phone....but not on a rollover type basis...the way I set it up was in the
alerts themselves...first time it reports down, it activates a wav file, in case
I am in the room...basically saying the server is down....second cycle it is
down, it sends an email to my cell phone via smtp, with a copy to my monitoring
email address, so I have a record...third cycle it is down, it uses SMS to
send an alert again, to my cell phone...
During
business hours, I have my cycle set at two minutes, checking every device every
cycle.
End
result is that if I am in the room, I am alerted in two minutes, if not in the
room, I know by the second cycle (4 minutes) on my cell phone, and if the smtp
service is down, I will be SMS paged at the six minute point...for my
purposes this works well...evenings and weekends, I set the check cycle to be
every four minutes, as response time is not so critical...even then, I am sure
to be alerted within 12 minutes given the worst case
scenario.
Since
I use multiple levels of alerting, I set the wav alert and the smtp email
to my cell phone to respond when the device is back up....the wav
alert responds with another wav file of course, and the smtp sends a "device
running" email....no "device running" alert on the SMS, because I get
one when I get the smtp service up and running anyway...
I also
run a remote copy of SA on my home machine, which is doing nothing more than
monitoring the SA service running on my server....basically a monitor for the
monitor, so in the event of a catastrophic network outage, this one alerts me
that SA itself is not running.
This
is how I do it, because I couldn't figure a way to make it roll over either, any
other suggestions?

SMS uses the modem that is installed in the monitoring computer to dial and call out every time you have an alert...if the computer that is running SA has a full time connection to the internet, just set up it up to email to your phone...most cell services allow you the ability to email to a phone, with unlimited incoming messages for free...as an example...you should be able to set up your smtp alert to default to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or whatever it works out to be with verizon or US cellular...this is a LOT easier than relying on a phone line being available, and the modem working...and it saves on minutes too, the email gets there in a second or two...the dialup to your cell phone will use a lot more seconds off your monthly time.Jonathan Marsden-----Original Message-----
