Eureka. I ran
EXCTRLST.EXE from the resource kit. The performance counter for perfproc was
disabled. I enabled it and voila.
Sorry to waste so much
bandwidth.
Thanks for the
support.

Stephen,
Double check to make sure that you are authenticating
so that you can see all the processes on the machine.I check PCAnywhere as a service and a process on
various machines.
Also, make sure that the win2k machine is enabled for
netbios over tcp in the network properties .
John
I
tried that, searching for the pcAnywhere process and it fails immediately,
the timeout doesn't come in to play. I tried both awhost32 and
awhost32.exe The log says:
Wednesday, August 27, 2003 10:35:06 AM ERR process check: ERR:
-1 Wednesday, August 27, 2003 10:35:06 AM NT Process check of
awhost32.exe on DVFSAPP4 failed
Wednesday, August 27, 2003 10:37:22 AM ERR process check: ERR:
-1 Wednesday, August 27, 2003 10:37:22 AM NT Process check of awhost32 on
DVFSAPP4 failed
Could you (for the test) enter manualy the name of a running
process, then run one cycle, BUT set a high timeout (something like
25).
What does that give?
dirk.
I'm sorry, I should have stated, I tried both name and IP
address, and get the same error message. I tried on the same subnet, and
on a different subnet too.
Steve
Try to use the IP address instead of the
name.
dirk.
I have tried this using version 4.0.1376 running on Windows
NT 4.0 SP6a Server and also running version 4.0.1490 running on
Windows 2000 Professional SP4.
If I try to add a check for an NT process it works fine if I
select an NT 4.0 machine, but if I chose a Windows 2000 machine, I
tried Professional, Server and Advanced Server and all did the
same.
I get the error box:
Error getting the process information from PCnnnn ERR: 01
()
There is nothing in the SA log as I have not gotten as far as
adding the check. Does anybody have any
suggestions?
Steve
