Dear All,

I know Brent Asked for off list replies but I thought this might be worth a public airing.

So far all products discussed come with a price tag of varying levels.  For those on a tight or non-existent budget I highly recommend IPCOP at www.ipcop.org

Its free (Built on Linux) Easy to manage (All done via web browser) and can provides Firewalling (IPTABLES), DMZs, Static VPNs (Based on FreeSwan www.freeswan.org), Intrusion detection (Snort http://www.snort.org/), Web Proxy (Squid http://www.squid-cache.org/), Content Filtering (DansGuardian www.dansguardian.org ).

Installation  of all the above is a snap with clear how-tos on the IPCOP site and takes around 20 - 30 mins from when you drop the CD into the drive.

Although I have an interest in open source I am strictly beginner level and my personal experience with this product is very positive.

If anyone would like to know more about how I'm using this or just has general questions please send me a mail directly at [EMAIL PROTECTED].

Cheers

Stephen

I just love PIX 5XX series works fine and good support, I have loads of different types of FW's but Cisco rules in my world, for now anyway.

Firstly I'm sorry to use this list in such a tardy fashion! But the combined brain power on this list is to much to resist. I have to implement a new firewall for our company. Our Watchguard hardware solution is killing us. I'd like some real world advise on hardware solutions. T1 pipe needs VPN and DMZ solutions. If anyone have information and/or links please contact me off list.

Thanks and sorry again Dirk.
